Follow the instructions on the web site.

What kind of ideas are you looking for?
We want original ideas…the more unusual the better. Great characters are a must.

What is the deadline for ideas?
August 1 is a general guideline. We will begin to confirm assignments at that time.

What happens if more than one person submits the same idea?
After August 1, we will confirm assignments.

This is a not-for-profit endeavor and we asking all participants contributing on 11.11.11 to volunteer their time to shoot.

Do I edit my own piece or just send you the video?
This could go either way…some contributors will be asked to edit their segment…and others will be asked to send raw footage to be incorporated as the producers see fit.

I work at a local affiliate what can I do?
We know some of you who work for a local station will be working your normal shift on November 11, 2011. We want you to do one of two things. One, pitch a story idea that your station will want you to shoot that day, or two, if you are shooting veteran’s related subject matter keep this project in mind. We need you to convince your station that this is a worthy project so they will grant permission for the use of the footage. We will provide a release form that will need to be completed in advance of 11.11.11.

What costs will the project cover for me, i.e., shipping, tape stock, travel, etc.?
Because this is a volunteer project, we are relying on the generosity of participants to cover tape stock, shipping and other incidental costs associated with this project. However, we are hoping that some funds can be raised in order to cover tape stock or shipping costs.

Will project own the raw tapes?
Due to the nature of this project, participants and their organization maintain full rights to any footage provided to the producers for this project.

I don’t have a camera, what do I do?
Beg, borrow and do whatever you need to do to get your hands on the tools necessary to be a part of this project.

What kind of credit does project offer to participants?
While the producers can’t guarantee every individual’s footage will be used in the documentary, every participant will get a credit in the film.

Will I be able to use the piece for my own use, youtube, job interviews, etc.?
There are no restrictions on what one does with their footage outside this project.

Can my piece be voiced or all nat sound?
At present the design of this documentary is non-narrative.

How long should my piece be?
This is going to be a 90-minute feature documentary and we want to get as many individual stores in as possible. We are looking for segments between 1:30 to 3:00. Also, we are looking for just raw footage from Veteran events that day…the more raw footage from a wide variety of locations would be wonderful.

What can I do to convince my boss to allow me to participate?
Directing your boss to this web site would be a good start. Also, let us know if you want us to personally contact your boss.

Will my employer receive a credit?
Yes…of course.

Does my employee have to accept a credit?
They don’t have to accept it.

What if my equipment is broken or stolen?
Because this is strictly a volunteer program, the producers are not responsible for stolen or broken equipment. We are not responsible for any unforeseen circumstance that may create problems for the individual volunteer participant. You will be asked to sign a release from liability waiver.

What if happens in case of injury during shooting?
Because this is strictly a volunteer program, the producers are not responsible for injuries or any unforeseen circumstance that may create problems for the individual volunteer participant. You will be asked to sign a release from liability waiver.

Do I have to sign anything, ever?
Yes…either you or your station or network will have to sign a release for use of the footage for this project as well as a release from liability waiver. This is something you will need to do well before 11.11.11.

Will I have a say in how the project is edited?
Some people will be asked to edit their pieces others will be asked to submit raw footage. The producers will have the final say.

What if I ‘commit’ to the project and am unable to do it for any reason?
There is a reasonable expectation that not everyone who has committed to this project will be able to follow though just let us know when you know.

Can subjects/characters pay me to produce their story?
No, this is documentary. We want to preserve basic journalistic standards in how this is completed. Being compensated from outside sources other than as an station employee would be unethical.

Can I be compensated in any way by any entity besides the project?
We do not have a budget for compensating individuals. However, we hope that volunteers who work for affiliates, networks or other organizations will be allowed to produce their documentary segment on work time.

If I don’t like how the documentary is put together do I have any claim of creative control?
Ultimately the producers have final creative control.

If you feel you need to do this the producers are not going to force your participation.

Can I use music in the piece I submit?
No.
